MTech IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

SEATS: 90

The annual growth rate of artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted to be 33.2% between 2020 and 2027. The market growth of AI is hampered due to a need for more experienced and trained professionals. This program would transform and strengthen industries across the globe. It focuses on intelligence exhibited by the machines and is a hybrid intelligence, where AI systems and humans work together. The curriculum offers an opportunity to approach AI from a technical perspective that focuses on the understanding, analysis, and development of novel AI algorithms and social and human perspectives. Decision-making, problem-solving, perception, and understanding human communication (in any language and translation, among them) for the computers would be the key elements taught in this program. This program provides the foundation and advanced skills in the principles and technologies that underlie AI, including logic, knowledge representation, probabilistic models, and machine learning. Students can pursue topics in depth, with courses available in robotics, vision, and natural language processing.

Intelligent connected devices that are aware of context and location will rule the digitally connected world in the future, with cognitive decision-making enabled by intelligent data analytics. The synergy created by combining artificial intelligence, big data analytics, the Internet of Things, cloud/edge computing, and other related technologies contributes significantly to realizing the automated interaction of real-world physical systems. The International Data Corporation predicts 41.6 billion connected IoT devices will generate 79.4 zettabytes of data in 2025. Future smart systems rely on data intelligence tools and techniques for finding hidden patterns, unknown correlations, and useful information buried in massive amounts of data.

The Internet of Things is an exciting and rapidly growing field in industry and academia. IoT has transformed the computing world with connected devices sensing the environment and making intelligent decisions at the right time based on analytics from the sensed data. Graduates of this master’s program are expected to develop novel solutions for intelligent and resilient networked systems and contribute to the design of stable digitally connected ecosystems involving distributed systems, computer vision, ubiquitous computing, machine learning, data science, and security services. Students will have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, which include a variety of professionally equipped laboratories and on-campus IoT communication infrastructure. Each student will be able to critically evaluate existing and emerging IoT technologies and apply knowledge, understanding, analytical, and design skills to design and develop projects. The skills acquired from this program are in high demand in the industry, particularly in the key verticals of Smart Cities, Smart Industries, Connected Health, and Smart Homes. The course also serves as a springboard for further research studies.

Cyber Security entails defending electronic devices, systems, networks, and data from any malicious attack. While living in a futuristic society surrounded by gadgets embedded with data, the role of cyber security personnel becomes even more critical. The exponential growth of cyber-attacks needs more and more cyber experts. Demand in the cyber security job market is soaring while supply is running critically low. There aren’t enough qualified, skilled cybersecurity professionals to fill the growing need. Cyber security engineers identify threats and vulnerabilities in systems and software and then apply their skills to develop and implement high-tech solutions to defend against various cyber-attacks.

As cyber-attacks grow in volume and complexity, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly indispensable in managing cyber threats. At the same time, the adoption of AI techniques for cyberattacks is also rising. Thus, AI has become a vital tool to manage cyber security risks, technical challenges, and resource constraints and improve systems’ robustness and resilience. The Master of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering degree with a Specialization in Cyber Security Engineering focuses on the fundamentals of developing, engineering, and implementing AI-based secure systems. The students will receive a grounding in the fundamentals of cyber security and AI and carry out research projects at the interface of the two. During the first semester, the program focuses on fundamental computer science, cyber security, and artificial intelligence courses. During the second semester, the students will strengthen their knowledge in advanced fields of cyber security and artificial intelligence through courses focusing on recent applications of cyber security and AI in computer engineering, AI techniques in cyber security, and the safety and security of applications incorporating AI. This unique M.Tech program provides students with a sound understanding of both disciplines. It puts considerable emphasis on their intersection. The graduates of this program can get hired as research scientists, principal cryptographers, cryptography engineers, cyber security architects, security analysts, security consultants, chief information security officers, security auditors, etc. Further, graduates of this program will be able to pursue PhD research or a research career on the interplay between cyber security, AI, and other computing disciplines.
